🎨 UI/UX Fundamentals

You don't need to be a designer, but you must be able to recognise good and bad experience — because usability is often the difference between a feature adopted and a feature ignored.

Usability heuristics

Visibility of system status, match to the real world, error prevention, and recognition over recall. Nielsen's heuristics are a fast checklist for spotting friction.

Cognitive load

Every choice, field, and step costs the user energy. Great UX removes steps and defaults smartly — the best interface is often less interface.

Accessibility is baseline

Contrast, keyboard navigation, and clear labels aren't extras — they widen your market and are increasingly a legal expectation.

From the field

In voice AI, 'UX' is conversation design: turn-taking, confirmation, graceful error recovery, and knowing when to hand off to a human. Bad conversation UX feels worse than a bad button.

The PM takeaway

Advocate for the user in every trade-off. If people can't succeed easily, the feature doesn't exist for them.
