🤝 Stakeholder Management

PMs rarely have direct authority over the people they depend on. Stakeholder management is how you turn a group with different incentives into a team rowing the same direction.

Map and tailor

Identify who's involved, their goals, and their influence. Then tailor how you communicate — an exec wants outcomes and risks; an engineer wants clarity and context.

Shared language of metrics

Alignment is easiest when everyone points at the same dashboard. Metrics turn opinion battles into evidence conversations.

Manage up and sideways

Proactively surface trade-offs and risks. Surprises destroy trust; early, honest updates build it.

From the field

Leading a 52-member team across sales, marketing, product, and ops, I learned that alignment isn't a meeting — it's a shared metric and a repeatable rhythm everyone trusts.

The PM takeaway

Influence follows credibility. Deliver, communicate honestly, and make others successful — the authority becomes irrelevant.
