Agile is a mindset — deliver value iteratively, respond to change, and learn fast. Scrum and Kanban are just two ways to operationalise it; the goal is flow, not ceremony.
Time-boxed sprints, defined roles, and regular ceremonies (planning, review, retro). Great when work is plannable and the team benefits from cadence and commitment.
Continuous flow with work-in-progress limits and a visual board. Great for unpredictable, interrupt-driven work like support or ops.
Ceremonies are means, not ends. If a ritual isn't improving flow or learning, cut it. Process should serve the team, never the reverse.
Designing onboarding and call workflows for large teams taught me the same lesson agile teaches: build the smallest system that creates reliable flow, then improve it from real data.
Pick the method that fits the work, keep only the ceremonies that earn their place, and optimise for shipping value — not for looking agile.
